I had seen photos of this place on Instagram, and inspired by the uniqueness of the area with an almost magical look, I knew I wanted to find this located and shoot a few pictures. However, I didn’t do the best research… First, we ended up at Andy Goldsworthy’s “Spire”, which is still a beautiful piece to behold… but not the locale I had envisioned.

After some quick Google searching, (thanks, Google!) I found “Lover’s Lane” which had promised me this path. Now, when you get there, Lover’s Lane is just a paved pathway. We both started down one direction, then frustrated and likely lost, we turned around again. Luckily, I looked into the trees and spotted a couple and their dog walking the path.

We trampled through some brush, then dappled light amongst the trees, a winding path through the woods… We had made it.

Some History

Designed by Andy Goldsworthy, this “Wood Line” piece follows the historic Eucalyptus grove in the Presidio, planted by the U.S. Army. Cypress trees had been planted within the Eucalyptus, but eventually they faded, leaving this tunnel amongst the trees.

You can follow the ribbon of wood through the trees, for a nice secluded little walk. It is located just off of “Lover’s Lane” in the Presidio.
